Today’s post is about an initiative by Save the Children called Race for Hunger.

Every year, 2.3 million children die because they don’t get enough of the right food. 



David Cameron has announced that he will lead the way in the Race Against Hunger. We want him to use his G8 presidency in 2013 to set ambitious plans to tackle hunger and save millions of children's lives.



The world has shown in recent years that it can take dramatic action - millions of children have been saved from preventable diseases. But despite major progress, hunger is still the root cause of a third of all child deaths. 



Right now, rises in global food prices are deepening the crisis. Families in the poorest countries are finding it harder and harder to afford the nutritious food their children need.



Sign the petition and send a message now asking the Prime Minister to tackle hunger and save millions of lives- it will only take a minute!

Together we can give every child a life free from hunger.

BBC Children in Need (tomorrow!)

Every year, the BBC Children in Need hosts a live, televised Appeal Show, supported by countless celebrities. The Appeal show is a whole evening of entertainment on BBC One with celebrities singing, dancing, and doing all sorts of crazy things to help raise money. Well, the time is here again!

BBC’s Children in Need Appeal Show starts tomorrow night (Friday, 16^th November 2012) at 7.30pm on BBC 1. Tune in for a night of fantastic entertainment and a great sense of community and making a difference together!

What We Do

BBC Children in Need is the BBC's UK corporate charity. Thanks to the support of the public, we're able to make a real difference to the lives of children all across the UK. How do we do this? Read all about our vision and how we operate below.

Where Your Money Goes

Every penny from the money you raise or donate will go towards helping disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK. We are able to make this promise because we use investment income and Gift Aid to cover all running costs, meaning that you can be sure your money makes a real difference.

Go BearFaced for Children in Need!

Today’s post is about an event that is happening tomorrow.

BBC Children in Need are proud to launch a brand new fundraising initative for 2012: BearFaced.

Why: To raise money for BBC Children in Need

Show your natural beauty: Children in need are asking women across the UK to show their natural beauty and wear no make-up for BearFaced Day – 9^th November 2012. It's such an easy way to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

They have a whole host of people already involved – why not get on board and show your support too?

You can simply go BearFaced and ask friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you. But, as you’ll see here, just like Tuuli Shipster, you can also show you’re part of the tribe by putting your own take on Pudsey’s pawprint on your face – a "beauty spot"-like paw in eyeliner, a Pudsey pawprint tattoo, diamante spots – anything you like!

Pudsey Pawprint Tattoos: From the 5^th November, you can buy exclusive Pudsey pawprint temporary tattoos from your local Post Office or from the Post Office online store. A Pawprint will cost you just 50p, and the Post Office are generously donating all proceeds from the sale of this product less VAT (42p) to BBC Children in Need.

Get sponsored: If you decide to go BearFaced on 9^th November, the most important thing is to make sure you get sponsored by as many of your friends, family and workmates as possible!

Samaritan’s Purse: Christmas Shoe Boxes for Children in Need

Samaritan's Purse (UK & Ireland) is an international relief and development organisation that works through local churches to proclaim and demonstrate the love of God amongst communities in need in 18 countries across Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

They are part of the global Samaritan’s Purse family that has been providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world since 1970. Along with the UK and Ireland, Samaritan's Purse has offices in the USA, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong and Australia.

Even if you don't recognise the name, you may well have come across our Operation Christmas Child initiative, which thousands of churches, schools and businesses across the UK and Ireland are already part of. 

But they do more than just send shoeboxes overseas. They respond in a distinctly Christian way to issues facing people in the places where we work: issues like water and sanitation, HIV and AIDS, sustainable livelihoods along with disasters and emergencies.

Samaritan's Purse believes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They're committed to seeing this gospel shared in the form of both words (that can change spiritual circumstances) and acts of mercy (that can change physical circumstances). 

They choose to work through the local Church - seeing it as God’s chosen instrument to bring hope to a hurting world. That's why they are committed to working with and through local churches, raising them up to bring lasting hope to people in impoverished communities around our world. 

Samaritan's Purse chooses to work in partnership - which is why they are always looking to inspire and encourage others to join with them in being part of God’s global mission. Samaritan’s Purse is calling on all UK churches, schools, workplaces, families and individuals to help achieve a remarkable milestone - delivering the 100 millionth gift-filled shoebox to children during this year’s Operation Christmas Child (OCC) campaign.

Over the past 22 years, Operation Christmas Child has delivered 94 million shoeboxes to needy children in over 100 countries.  To lift this total to 100 million and beyond, UK staff and volunteers have embarked upon a nationwide drive to find and encourage even more people to help bring joy to children around the world this Christmas.

“We’re asking everyone across the UK to help us achieve this remarkable milestone”, says Samaritan’s Purse UK Executive Director, Simon Barrington. “It’s great way to celebrate Christmas - showing children, most of whom live in the most difficult circumstances, that God loves them and cares for them and that He’s not forgotten them.”

The Literacy Site: Free Clicks to Promote Literacy for Children in Need!

Today's post also links back to my post from on Thursday about supporting underprivileged girls' futures ( http://365days2changetheworld.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/plan-ukorg-international-day-of-girl.html?m=1 ), this time focusing on helping to promote higher levels of literacy for children in need.
This is another site run by The GreaterGood Network. It is pretty much the same principle as The Hunger Site, The Breast Cancer Site, The Animal Rescue Site and The Child Health Site free clicks, except that it supports charities that provide free books and promote literacy for children in need. The Literacy Site is a charitable site that sells a whole host of items that donate to supporting these charities. It also has a lot of excellent information on different causes that need supporting and how we can help.
In 2011 alone, The Literacy Site funded 389,872 books for children in need directly through the 'free clicks' initiative. You can help with this for free too! This has got to be one of my favourite features of the site (which I use every day that I log onto the internet using my laptop): using the 'daily free clicks' to donate. Basically, you visit http://www.thehungersite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=6&link=ctg_lit_home_from_chs_home_sitenav
and click on the 'Click Here to Give - it's FREE' button, which generates money for charity, paid for by site sponsors. When you click, these companies and groups actually pay for your click! That's 365 free chances each year to help! The Child Health site gives 100% of sponsor advertising fees to their charitable partners- so all of the money generated by your daily clicks will actually go to helping to provide books for children in need!

) as your home page, or to sign up for a free click reminder email (under the big 'Click Here to Give - it's FREE' button). You control how often you get a reminder! The Literacy Site works in conjunction with many charitable partners. One of these is First Book (http://www.firstbook.org/). They aim to give new books to children in need. With the help of partners (such as The Literacy Site), volunteers and donations, First Book have provided more than 90 million new books to schools and programs serving children in need.
