Tonight's evening service at re:generation church was just inspiring! We had a special baptism service where 7 new/newish Christians were officially baptised into the faith. I was asked to be one of the sponsors and it was just such a privilege and a blessing to be a part of it.
The testimonies that we heard about the struggles that God had rescued them out of were very emotional, but just such an amazing reminder of the mess that God has rescued each Christian out of and the incredible power He has to continue to do the same in the lives of others. I am really particularly bad at remembering this, which is part of why I often struggle to witness to others: I think I have to do it in my own strength and totally forget that I can't and that God will do it in His!
Seeing all these people's non-Christian friends and family sit in church and be a part of the service just really reminded me of the importance of witnessing to others and getting them to church so that they have to opportunity to hear the Word and encounter God for the first time. I am determined to invite more people to church and to be braver in my evangelism! I encourage you to do the same! We heard tonight how one person's evangelism (aged 16 at the time) saved so many lives (3 of which were baptised tonight!) and it really puts me to shame!
My resolve is: do what God puts on your heart, speak to who He directs you to, say what He asks you to say and He will do the rest!
Blessings!

"4 Then they went from town to town, instructing the believers to follow the decisions made by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem. 5 So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day." {Acts 16:4-5}
Having completed my 365 day challenge to post a tip, organisation, cause, issue or inspiration every day for 1 whole year (2012-2013) to help each of us to figure out how we can make a difference to the world we live in, I decided to continue posting! I am now volunteering in Los Angeles and working with victims of human trafficking. Stay tuned for more on that and I hope you will be inspired to start where you are and use what you have to bring on world change! Blessings! Ronell x

Light Shines Through Cracked Pots
Jeannie Morgan from Soul Survivor is visiting re:generation church again tomorrow (11th May 2013) for an inner healing session... I am bracing myself because I know how painful it can be to go through the process of feeling your stored up/suppressed pain again, but I am excited more than anything to see how God will move in my life and the lives of others again, knowing the incredible knock-on effect that this will have!
If you are in the able to come, please do!
Blessings!

Let not those who wait and hope and look for You, O Lord of hosts, be put to shame through me; let not those who seek and inquire for and require You [as their vital necessity] be brought to confusion anddishonor through me, O God of Israel. —Psalm 69:6
Everyone is like a pot that carries life. But not everyone carries a presence that blesses others. Religion tries to force people to follow laws to make them perfect, like pots without cracks. But if a light is put within a flawless pot and then covered, no one is able to see the light inside the pot. Perfect pots are not able to reveal internal light to illumine the way for others.
God chooses to shine through imperfect, cracked pots. People are blessed when our cracked pots let the light of Jesus shine through. Choose to be a glory-filled, cracked pot rather than an empty, pretty vessel.

Our next two fundraising events are both on Saturday 18th May 2013:
The Fun Day @ 2pm-6pm
Old-style stalls, a coconut shy, a barbecue, a bouncy castle homemade confectioneries, a beauty salon, candyfloss, ice cream, facepainting and panna football are just some of the great entertainment lined up. We'll also have some workshops throughout the day such as graffiti, drama and drums (but not together, obviously).
The Live Lounge @ 6pm-8pm
The Fun Day will close in monumental style with two hours of The Live Lounge; open mic and live music from some really talented local acts. Starts at 6, same place.

Beauty for Ashes
Tonight at re:generation church’s evening service, one of
my dearest friends gave an incredibly moving talk and shared a very personal
testimony about how she was sexually abused as a child by a family friend and
had never told anyone, including her mum, up until last week.
I was really moved by her testimony and
inspired by her courage to be vulnerable and to share such a personal and
hurtful story. God really spoke to me and ministered to me tonight about many
of the tragic and hurtful things that have happened in my past and, after my
friend had prayed with me, He really prompted me again (I have been avoiding it
for a couple of months now) to share two particular parts of my story on here (one today and one later this week).
I have been extremely reluctant to put
either of these stories from my past on paper, but I have seen (both first hand
and from watching others share) the power of being vulnerable and opening up
about your past hurts and I really feel that it is time to allow God to use my
testimony in this way now. So here goes…
I grew up in a Christian home and one of
the values that I held in high regard was saving myself for marriage (being a
virgin). When I went to university, I still adhered to this principle. I
steered dangerously close to the line in secondary school (high school) and at
university, but pretty much the one thing I was adamant about was that I wanted
to ‘save myself’ for my husband one day.
While I was at university, I became good
friends with a guy there who was clearly hurting from many different situations
and had a tendency to hurt others (like my friend said tonight: “hurting people
hurt people”). He was the most ‘dangerous’ person I had ever been close to and
in a weird way that really attracted me.
We became good friends and eventually
started ‘hooking up’ (not sleeping together). He always pushed for more, but I
made my beliefs very clear to him and said that it was not an option for me.
One night, we went out drinking with
some other friends and all got rather drunk (as was usual for us at
university). One of the other guys that was there was an old friend/flame of
mine who was particularly drunk. In his drunken state, he kissed me. I did not
bother getting cross because of how very drunk he was and just helped him back
to our table downstairs.
Unfortunately, this guy that I had been
hooking up with saw this happen and became very angry and jealous. He pulled me
back upstairs, through the student union, up to were the offices were (and no
people) and started shouting at me. I tried to explain what had happened, but
before I knew what was happening, he pinned me down and started pulling my
clothes off and forcing himself on me.
It was over before I really had a chance
to realise what had happened. When he was done with me, he pinned me up against the
wall, kissed me aggressively and said “look what you made me do! This is your
fault for making me jealous!”. Then pushed me away from him and told me to get
dressed, before storming off and leaving me there by myself.
I felt dirty, empty and totally broken. It
was one of the worst nights of my life- one that I will never fully forget and
one that I kept to myself for a very long time. But I don’t feel the pain of it
the same way as before. I really brought this to God and through prayer and
mentoring, He has really brought me healing. It now feels like it was somebody
else’s life. Like it was something that I saw in a film- a vivid memory, but
without out the singe of pain.
God has taken that pain and the extreme
shame and He has also helped me to forgive this man of what he did to me that
night and for everything that followed. I tried to forget this by drinking,
going into other relationships and just keeping busy/distracted, but it didn’t
work. It was only 7/8 years after the event, once I had allowed God in, that I
began to receive healing from all of the pain that came with this.
All I can say is, if you have been in a
situation where you have been sexually or violently assaulted or abused, it is
not your fault and please do not keep it to yourself! If you do not deal with
it, it will come back to haunt you and eventually your own family until you finally face it- just the other day, a friend told me about a friend of hers whose wife
committed suicide after having to testify in court about a choir master who
sexually abused her when she was at school. She could not handle dealing with
it after hiding it and suppressing the emotions for all those years. Do not
allow someone else to have that kind of power over you! Get prayer, see a
therapist, speak to someone you can trust and who can help you, but don’t let it get to a stage
where it destroys your life and there is nothing that anyone can do to help
you anymore.
I really hope that this testimony will
help someone somewhere to come to terms with what has happened to them, or
inspire someone to speak up about their own experience, or even just make
someone aware of the pain that a friend or family member may be going through.
I know that God has given me healing, so
that I can share my testimony with others and touch their lives. I pray for
emotional healing and strength for anyone who has been affected by sexual or
physical abuse and pray that God will really minister to you and bring healing.
Blessings!

ESC: Every Second Counts
Tonight at re:generation church, Stephen Poch spoke about the new trust that he is heading up in association with Scripture Union, called ESC Trust: Life in places of death. Hope in places of despair. Freedom in places of addiction.
E.S.C — Every Second Counts — seeks to reach young people, and young adults who are current and ex-offenders, rescuing them from a cycle of crime through practical support, spiritual guidance and, most of all, God’s love and hope. E.S.C makes the gospel relevant to today’s street culture, reaching young people and young adults that are disengaged and discipling them into a loving Church community.
“If it wasn’t for Stephen, I would either be serving a life sentence or I’d be dead. He never lets me go, and always brings me back to Church!”— Tony
Stephen's Story:
In 2000, Stephen Poch set up a graffiti crew called “E.S.C” (Elevating.Street.Crime). This reflected the friendship group and lifestyle he once was a part that included illegal graffiti, crime and violence. However, when Stephen encountered Jesus it transformed his life and he rebranded E.S.C as Every Second Counts. This is now a ministry that seeks to reflect the changes that have occurred in its Stephen’s life. It’s sole purpose is to penetrate a world of crime and darkness with the love, hope and light of Jesus Christ.
Over the course of seven years, Stephen has mentored several young men through the support and resourcing of his home Church, Re:generation. For example:
Tony a friend of Stephen, is someone who has been in and out of prison and has led a life of crime for a number of years. He has been connected to Re:generation Church through the work of E.S.C and says ‘it is the only place I feel safe and have a sense of peace’. As a result he has come to the realisation that Christ loves him, but has yet to commit his whole life to following him. We seek to help him make that decision through demonstrating Christ’s grace and love.
Danny is another example of someone Stephen has worked with through E.S.C's partnership with Holy Trinity Brompton’s Caring for Ex-offenders program. He is a young man aged 21, who already has served two years in prison for a firearms offence. He has a girlfriend with two children and is expecting another. Since meeting Danny and his family, there have been great opportunities to build relationship. Stephen and Danny have together redecorated Danny’s family home, and Stephen and his wife have befriended Danny’s family offering practical advice and support.
The Need:
Through E.S.C’s partnership with “Hope4Havering” (a homeless night shelter based in Romford, Essex) & “Caring for Ex-offenders” over the past three years, E.S.C became aware of how few Christ-centred organisations exist in the day to day lives of young people and adults who are trapped in gang culture and cycle of crime.
E.S.C believes passionately that the Church is for everyone. E.S.C believes that the Church has a role to play in supporting young people and young adults who are at risk of offending, and that it can be the “arm” of the Church that reaches out to those that would not feel comfortable walking into a Sunday Church service.
E.S.C will practice relationship-based outreach to these people. It will continue to find and establish new ways of working with and supporting young people (and young adults) into a positive lifestyle, as well as seeking to support them into training or employment. It will also support the Church to engage these young people (and young adults) more effectively.
How They Do It:
Building relationships with ex-offenders and a loving Church community around them
- Building friendship and showing love through spending time with ex-offenders and young people
- Listening and persevering
- Supporting the wider family
- Giving practical support such as finding training and employment opportunities, accommodation, accommodation refurbishment, mentoring, teaching them skills such as painting and decorating
- Giving spiritual support
- Introducing ex-offenders and young people to other Christians who can build their own friendships and offer support
- Helping ex-offenders and young people to settle into a loving Church community
- Connecting with graffiti crews through the medium of legal graffiti and art
Building a network of different partners to find/who give employment opportunities to ex-offenders
- Establishing partners – charities, Government agencies and Christians – who know of employment opportunities for ex-offenders
- Sourcing companies directly who would be willing to employ ex-offenders
- Giving references to potential employers
Working in prisons, within greater London and with chaplaincies, sharing testimony, mentoring prisoners and teaching new skills
- Working with and building on existing chaplaincy work
- Speaking at Sunday services in prisons
- By using past experiences and a personal faith in Jesus, show the inmates an alternative lifestyle option
- Praying for and visiting inmates
- Teaching skills such as painting and decorating
Educating the Church about the ministry and life of ex-offenders and how they can support E.S.C
- Visiting local Churches and giving presentations to raise awareness of the need, the stories of changed individuals and the work of the trust
- Tell Churches how they can support it both financially and spiritually
- Find volunteers who feel they could help further the work of E.S.Cnot short term.
Please support Stephen and ESC through your prayers! You can also support the work of ESC financially.
Blessings!

Brian 'Head' Welch
Tonight at Alpha
(re:generation church)
Alicia spoke about who Jesus is and who we perceive Him to be. Alicia discussed
how many see Him as a fictional character that people use as a crutch or for
escapism. She then proceeded to show the following testimony by Brian ‘Head’
Welch (formerly from Korn) on the I Am Second site, discussing how real Jesus
and God are in his own life and how the total, undeserved love and grace of
God, reached in and saved his life. You can watch the clip here.
Blessings!

Life Skills: Being Submitted to God
Tonight was another fantastic Life Skills session at re:generation church, led by Hannah.
The session was on submitting to God,
not from a place of weakness and lack of other options, but from a place of
love and of trust, knowing that the plans that He has for you are for your best
(Jeremiah 29:11). Hannah’s challenge was this: how can you get closer to God if
you are unwilling to submit fully to Him and to hear and follow the calling He
has on your life?
In our groups, we discussed areas in our
own lives where we have struggled (and are struggling) to submit. The challenge
was raised when thinking of great men and women of God (like Jim Elliott or
Gladys Aylward) who dedicated their lives to God’s specific calling. What would
the Christian faith and the world around us look like without those men and
women who have (and do) submit their lives fully to God.
But these are not myths and legends.
Modern day heroes of faith still live among us. People like Christine Caine, fighting against
human trafficking (A21 Campaign),
or Bill
Wilson, fighting for the salvation of inner city children in New York City (Metro Ministries).
Joyce
Meyer’s post in her daily online
devotional was on the same topic today: Lean and depend on Jesus:
My trust and assured reliance and confident hope shall be fixed
in Him. —Hebrews
2:13
Proverbs 17:1 says that a house
full of sacrifices with strife is not pleasing to the Lord. In other words, we
could make all kinds of sacrifices of time and effort to try to help people,
yet God is not pleased unless we stay in peace. Pursuing peace means making an
effort. But we cannot maintain peace simply by our own fleshly effort. We need
God's help and we need grace, which is His power assisting us and enabling us
to do what needs to be done.
The effort we make must be in Christ. So often we just try to do
what is right without asking for God's help, and that type of fleshly effort
never produces good fruit. The Bible calls this a "work of the
flesh." It is man's effort trying to do God's job. What I am saying is, be
sure you lean on God and ask for His help. When you succeed, give Him the
credit, the honor, and the glory because success is impossible without Him.
Jesus said, Apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me]
you can do nothing (John 15:5).
It takes most of us a long time
to believe this scripture enough to stop trying to do things without leaning on
God. We try and fail, try and fail. It happens over and over until we finally
wear ourselves out and realize that God Himself is our strength, our success,
and our victory. He doesn't just give us strength—He is our Strength. He does not
just give us the victory—He is our Victory. Yes, we make an effort to keep
peace, but we dare not make an effort without depending on God's power to flow
through us—failure is certain if we do.
{From the book New Day, New You by Joyce Meyer}
So, whatever it is that you feel God has
impressed on your heart to do, lean into Him, trust Him to provide where you
are faithful and obedient. God may be calling you to mission work in another country,
but He may equally be calling you to visit the sick or elderly in your
neighbourhood; to work with children who live on the estate near you, or to
serve in your church. God has a different and unique purpose for each of us.
What is your purpose? Are you sold out
to it?
Blessings!
